So sorry to hear that Kofi Annan has just died. He truly lived up to the ideals embodied in the UN Charter. It was such a privilege to work for such an inspiring person and I am so grateful for his support and encouragement after I left the UN. My thoughts are with his family.

Looking back, this was an innocent and optimistic moment - the terrorist attacks of 9/11 would follow in New York ten months later, and then divisions at the UN over the Iraq war. Despite such multiple challenges Kofi Kofi Annan has left us a remarkable legacy.
