Rachel Reeves is right that the world has changed - so why won’t she change her strategy to reflect it? Rigid adherence to arbitrary fiscal rules & refusing wealth taxes is a political choice that’s causing untold pain as well as laying out the welcome mat for populist Reform UK

I'm giving a masterclass on Revenge in Hamlet for visiting students next week and am creating a Powerpoint presentation. On the slide about Francis Bacon's essay on revenge, the design function has suggested, as an illustration, a picture of - you guessed it - bacon. 🤦‍♂️

Absolutely thrilled to pick up this Maria Edgeworth book from a local market for a teeny price of £10. It's an original from 1820! Such a wonderful piece of literary history. Can't wait to read the stories for children! mariaedgeworthcentre

This #EarthDay2025 seems a good moment to share some wonderful Gerard Manley Hopkins: “What would the world be, once bereft Of wet and of wildness? Let them be left, O let them be left, wildness and wet; Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet.”

I completely agree with this by Anthony Horowitz in The Telegraph. The difference I saw in a decade working in a school library was astonishing and depressing and led me to stop doing a job I once loved. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05/1…
