Today is #WorldAsthmaDay! Summer isn’t always an easy season when you have a lung condition. Things like hay fever and hot weather can make breathing more difficult and stop you doing the things you love. This summer we want to inspire you with ways to achieve your goals ā˜€ļø

Asthma is worse for women + we don’t know why. When @asthalunguk funded projects investigating this is in 2022 it was to make discoveries just like Chloe Bloom's. There’s lots more research to be done + much more funding needed. But this is a great step in the right direction 🫁

In 2019, Asthma + Lung UK published the Asthma Still Kills report, showing that non-T2 related airway diseases lagged far behind in terms of available treatments and care. Ā I’m thrilled to be with the faculty again at #ICAN 2025 to drive international collaboration) in this area

Very excited to be at the ATS and the Respiratory Innovation Summit for the first time and looking forward to learning lots about innovations coming our way. Great to have a patient advocacy panel first at the opening session, impressive. And there’s wine. šŸ˜€

David Morris MD from UCSF is predicting the death of science & innovation in the US as PhD progs are cut & NIH £ decimated. Also an exodus of scientists to EU which the UK will benefit from. I hope Peter Kyle understands the UK respiratory innovation growth potential. #RIS2025

Fantastic to see the first +ve phase 3 trial for IPF in a decade with nerandomilast showing sig. impact on lung function with much lower side effects. Whilst it will be a while before it’s available, this gives IPF patients hope for the future. This is what research can do!

In NEJM #ATS2025 session hearing that the phase 3 trial of nerandomilast in other ILDs was also positive, fantastic news for pts esp as side effects were fewer. 2ndry endpoints, inc QoL, were negative though, but it’s a start

JAMA paper in this morning’s session highlighting the complexity of diagnosing COPD. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…. This also illustrates why we need investment in development of better tests to diagnose respiratory diseases; it’s incredibly costly + time-consuming

I really enjoyed James D Chalmers superlative talk heralding a ā€˜new era for bronchiectasis’ as a chronic inflammatory disease which opens the door for disease-modifying treatments. Gives hope to people with this disease. Thanks for acknowledging Asthma + Lung UK Research funding James.

A great reminder for those (like me!) who are getting excited for Glastonbury Festival in a few weeks. Don't let your lung condition ruin the fun. Remember to pack your inhalers/antihistamines/steroid nasal sprays/any other medicines you need for the festival and to take them regularly
