Today I received the worst review of a manuscript I’ve ever had. The TL;DR: great study, shame the results were negative. Here’s why that’s a crappy attitude - a thread (1/n)

The environmental impacts of the food system could increase by 50–90% between 2010 and 2050 if no action is taken to counteract the expected changes in population and income levels, according to a study in Nature. go.nature.com/2ORoXzi

Two new faces at GFT! Fisheries Intern Abbie joined us a month ago and has been getting stuck in with electrofishing surveys. Dr Samantha Beck, our new Fisheries Biologist, started this week. Sam will be running many of the GFT research, monitoring and restoration projects.

Please RT. Any UK academics on here who have used an international payroll provider to pay a postdoctoral fellow temporarily working abroad (in Canada or elsewhere)? If so, which one did you use? Thanks for any help at all!

And now we have Samantha Beck  @salmonthaBeck that will talk about characterising the genomic basis of adult return timing in Canadian Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) 🐟

It's been a busy few weeks presenting the first #salmove results at #SCAS (Montreal), #nowpas2023 (Oslo) and visiting old friends and new collaborators in Bergen! Alison Harvey Thanks to #ScottishArcticNetwork for helping to make this happen! ScotArcticNet

Please share: We have free places (= no tuition fee for UK residents) available on our new MRes in Freshwater Biodiversity & Conservation at UHI Inverness. Potential for research projects applying popgen/genomic and eDNA approaches to species conservation & freshwater management

There's still time to apply for our funded PhD on Atlantic salmon! You will combine genomics and long-term datasets to understand why Scotland's salmon are returning to their home rivers at different times.

Samantha V. Beck identified the genomic regions and environmental variables driving return run timing variation in 🇨🇦 Atlantic Salmon. Pops with the most extreme run times may be most vulnerable to climate change due to ⬆️ genomic offsets! 🐟🧬⏰ FSBI Symposium fsbi #FSBI2024
