My #notmyshame t-shirt has it’s 2nd outing today. I’m sitting in a waiting room in hospital. I decided to wear it as I wanted to make a statement. All those times I have felt shame coz of disclosing what I’ve been through to medical professionals. Well, it’s not my shame anymore!

I remember two baths as well with a narrow path between them. Everyone could see you in them and the shouts from 'Aunty' to remember to wash properly your private areas. None of us had toys and story books were locked away. That was the cruellest thing for me. I loved to read.

Today. First time in a long time I’ve took a breath an thought how far I’ve come. My little family an few friends I’ve made over last 20yrs have helped heal my heart. My faith an maybe just maybe a little bit of trust. 13yrs of institutional residential care does impact your life
