A real shortage of berries locally, so the orange-red seeds of Stinking Iris and a silvery seedpod of Honesty were the most festive plants I came across on yesterday's perambulation... #wildflowerhour #festiveplants BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

Just over 12 hours before the Lincolnshire Flora Group meets in Sleaford to take part in the bsbi.org/new-year-plant… Details are in the group hunts section of the BSBI website. We last visited Sleaford 5 years ago and recorded 55 flowering species - will we beat that this year?

A break from botany with a spot of birdwatching at Deeping Lakes NR. Wonderful close encounter with a sleepy Long-eared Owl (look at those ear tufts!) and a more distant one with a rather grumpy-looking Little Owl #birds Lincs Wildlife Trust Lincsbirding

When I moved to Peterborough in the mid 1980's, Red Kites were confined to mid-Wales, Buzzards were only seen when travelling north or west and Jackdaws and Sparrowhawks were locally rare. Now all are regular visitors to our suburban Peterborough garden - how times change #birds

A chilly birthday jaunt to RSPB Frampton Marsh šŸŒ Such an evocative soundscape - the soft braying of Brent Geese, gently whistling Wigeon as well as calls of Lapwing, Curlew and Redshank... Good views of Common Snipe, Pintail, a fluffed-up Little Egret and a Ruff too... #birds

Writing an article about BirdLife Marine programme, editing a paper about Venezuelan shorebirds (Chris Sharpe @sharpebirder.bsky.social) and genning up on orchid taxonomy ahead of co-leading (w/Sarah Lambert) the Wildlife Travel tour to Cyprus next month: a varied day ahead. But coffee first!
