Timely new publication by Kimberly Stokes (co-authored by Sarah W. Lenhoff and myself) about the role of relationships in addressing chronic absenteeism. School-family relationships are critical; our findings highlight these should be rooted in understanding academic.oup.com/cs/advance-art…

Thrilled to have been awarded an inaugural SUMI grant from the Urban Institute for a project with Huriya Jabbar! We're comparing gold-standard social network data to admin data on enrollments, course-taking, residential location, etc. to see if we can predict youth social ties.

Many of you in ed policy research know Adam Kho and his husband Bradford, two of the best people I know. They're going through a really tough situation as they build their family. If you have a few dollars to spare, it could go a long way: gofundme.com/f/support-brad…

I'm excited to participate in this panel on student absenteeism hosted by the AEFP Doc Student Community Group this Thursday 10/31. You don't have to be a member to join us! Maybe we can convince Ethan Hutt to dress up for Halloween!

We have very little evidence on what schools are doing to address absenteeism. This paper begins to fill that gap by showing that high-absenteeism districts in MI are relying heavily on communication & incentives, with limited efforts to address barriers. Ungated link below, too!
