This message from European Parliament couldn't be clearer. And Amnesty International's message is the same: Justice is long overdue. #China should immediately release #IlhamTohti, Gulshan Abbas and all those arbitrarily detained, and end the repression of #Uyghurs and other non-Han ethnic groups.

"No country has a perfect #humanrights record, but not country is above fair scrutiny of its obligations." No debate, no double standards. #China should urgently adress protection gaps, cooperate with the United Nations system, and cease repression of #Uyghurs, #Tibetans and others.

We Amnesty International have called this trial a shameful retreat from rule of law, dignity, + due process - and UN Human Rights experts agree. #HongKong authorities should immediately release Lai, a prisoner of conscience, and end the misuse of the #NSL to sanction #freedomofexpression.

Raising concerns ("grave" ones, to be clear) is all well and good. But in para 3 UN UN Human Rights botches the message. The call isn't for a "review". It's for a "repeal", and an unconditional "release". #humanrights law demands nothing less. ohchr.org/en/press-relea…

Five years on from the #1226 crackdown, and we’re here to stand with Luo Shengchun丁家喜律师妻子 李翘楚#许志永早日回家 and all family of those HRDs who were targeted. Read more about the case and the current situation of #DingJiaxi and #XuZhiyong here: amnesty.org/en/latest/news…

So thrilled at this show of Amnesty International solidarity to support #IlhamTohti’s immediate and unconditional release. As he marks yet another year unjustly behind bars, I truly hope he can feel these 40 thousand+ folks standing with him. Jewher.Ilham Ilham Tohti Initiative Maya Wang 王松蓮 CHRD人权捍卫者

This protracted injustice risks a swift and brutal end. #Thailand must stop all measures to forcibly return these men, allow them access to lawyers and to their families, and ensure protection of their rights until resettlement can occur. APRRN ISHR Fortify Rights

Officials abroad have been doing a full court press on the 30th anniversary of Beijing UN women’s conference. Meanwhile at home, #China continues its harsh and heartless assault on #HRDs, including women HRDs like #XuYan and #HeFangmei. The collateral damage? Their children.

Assessmnet of #crimesagainsthumanity is groundbreaking - and should bring renewed focus to what the UN Special Procedures have been saying for nearly a decade. Until #China allows open critique + unfettered access, we can only assume that detentions continue at a catastrophic scale.

Justice has belatedly been served in this case - the first time Hong Kong's top court has sided with the defendant in a National Security Law case. These three activists were denied a fair trial and their conviction – as today’s ruling acknowledges – was a travesty. 1/2

As we prepare to celebrate #IWD2025, what a pleasure it is to hear from LiMaizi about the impact of the #FiveFeminists case on international solidarity, #China's feminist movements, and her own life as an activist and organiser - and to put #Beijing30 into critical perspective🙏

I for one would also like to see more women in #China - like #HuangXueqin #HeFangmei #KamileWayit - "live life to the full and realize their dreams". How about you help by asking your govt for their, and other detained #WHRDs', immediate and unconditional release?

Hong Kong's banning of a “seditious” mobile app shows the absurdity of the city's national security laws + the paranoia of those enforcing them. While this game is a fantasy, the reality for Hongkongers is intensifying self-censorship and threats to their freedom of expression.

The Hong Kong government's proposal does not go nearly far enough in its claim to recognize the rights of same-sex couples in the city. 1/3
