A new study in Science Magazine, by researchers from Scott Polar Research Institute, Loughborough University & Norges geologiske undersøkelse (NGU) calculates that ice shelves surrounding the Antarctic coast retreated at speeds of up to 50 m per day at the end of the last Ice Age ow.ly/yAKx50zTklG
It's kind of amazing that we can retrieve the daily behaviour of a retreating ice sheet that existed 20,000 years ago. But the record is there if you know where to look. #NorwegianSea #Antarctica Christine Batchelor Frazer Christie bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…
Interested in the mechanism of buoyancy-driven ice-sheet retreat described in our new nature paper? (rdcu.be/c9eZ4). Here’s a short thread explaining some of the key points from the manuscript! Christine Batchelor Dr Jeff Evans Scott Polar Research Institute NCL Physical Geog 1/n
