If I did what most are doing, I’d be seeing multiple patients every day unmasked, never testing to check if I was putting them all at risk of death, never caring if I was picking up infections & spreading it across the hospital to patients, staff & visitors, or bringing it home

I’d be doing it all as we hear news of a new variant of Covid spreading globally, easy if you don’t listen to Covid news, but as we are already seeing numbers climb in our own hospital harder to ignore, except management stopped communicating numbers years ago to all staff…

So all I have to do is ignore what’s literally infront of my eyes on the wards, harder, but when all the other staff are doing it & not a single thing has changed (still no staff testing, no staff masking, no change dictated from management to address the wave), it’s achievable…

The only thing I’d have to set aside is reality, my wish to not harm my patients, colleagues, visitors or my family, all my years of medical training, any knowledge of infection control, my human drive to survive, empathy for others, my logical response to threat…then I’ll be ok
