Kelp-o-lanterns. Brings back great memories from Bamfield MSC. I wonder, are there examples of Halloween themed decorations derived from other coastal marine ecosystems?? If so please share!

Our paper in Nature Communications reveals that global #mangrove losses and gains over 20 years can be attributed to socioeconomic and biophysical factors. Access to markets is a strong driver of loss, but economic growth can be compatible with mangrove gains: 10.1038/s41467-022-33962-x

One year ago this site was an urchin barren with very little kelp. Today it's a healthy kelp forest where the urchins are tucked back in cracks, passively feeding on the drift algae. #kelprestoration #kelp #kelpforest #tankersreef

Today is the first day of Hanukkah, often referred to as the Festival of Lights. The vertical schooling behavior of these #Cutlassfish (Trichiurus lepturus) looks similar to flickering candles at times. Seen at 300m depth off of Costa Rica during the #CostaRicaDeep expedition.

It was an honour to participate in the 2nd #ReefFutures Roundtable in Canberra earlier in April along with scientists, managers and First Nations representatives in Aus. We were identifying management actions which have potential to help #GBR seascapes adapt to climate change.
