21 May 1950 saw the BBC open Lime Grove studios. They had purchased the building from Gaumont who built it in 1915 and used it for Gainsborough Film Productions. The studios fell into disrepair and got the nickname "Slime Grove!" It closed in 1991 and was demolished in 1993.

Fittingly, the Shepherd's Bush band also closed the 2012 London Olympics.
