As I start on my #BikeForButterflies, I'll be remembering Phil Grey, who sparked my interest in butterflies. A childhood interest stays with you for life! Please support Butterfly Conservation 🦋 and promote widely. justgiving.com/campaign/bikef…

Kicked off my #bikeforbutterflies with Common Blue, Large Skipper and Meadow Brown in Penarth, raising ££ for Butterfly Conservation 🦋. Please donate and share justgiving.com/campaign/bikef…

Looking for our most-threatened butterfly today, the High Brown Fritillary, on my #BikeForButterflies. Only at 1 site in Wales. Please help Butterfly Conservation 🦋 secure the future for this species: donate and share justgiving.com/campaign/bikef…

Found High Brown Fritillaries at their only site in Wales today. Great work by Butterfly Conservation 🦋 to create the right habitat facebook.com/share/1CpN6nQm…. Much more still needs to be done for this species. Please give generously justgiving.com/campaign/bikef… #Bikeforbutterflies

Not many butterflies today on my #BikeForButterflies but did see a fresh Comma and my first Marbled White of the year. With so few flying, the work of Butterfly Conservation 🦋 is ever more important. justgiving.com/campaign/bikef…

Lots of Red Admirals on my #BikeForButterflies in Carmarthenshire today. Probably a wave of migration Butterfly Conservation 🦋? Not much else about in the chilly wind and overcast conditions.

Tough day's cycling #bikeforbutterflies: hilly, long, and a headwind. Butterflies are in trouble and need our help. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 are doing great work: you can support at justgiving.com/campaign/bikef…. Thanks!

Missed seeing Marsh Fritillaries at Dowrog Common yesterday. A few other species flying, but only in small numbers. #bikeforbutterflies Butterfly Conservation 🦋

Halfway through #BikeForButterflies: 15 species, but so few flying: nature is in trouble. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 is helping, so please support generously justgiving.com/campaign/bikef…

Another tough day of steep hills #bikeforbutterflies. Just a few whites & browns in the hedgerows: we now have to go to 'special' places (Reserves) to see butterflies. I reject that! We should see them everywhere - help Butterfly Conservation 🦋 achieve that justgiving.com/campaign/bikef…

Cool and cloudy here for #bikeforbutterflies: good for bike, not for butterflies. Hoped for Small Blues on this Kidney Vetch near Borth, but no luck. Butterfly Conservation 🦋. Fingers crossed for tomorrow...

Success today on #bikeforbutterflies, Grayling at Morfa Dyffryn NNR near Harlech. Precious sand dune habitats supporting rare plants and invertebrates. Butterfly Conservation 🦋

Penultimate day of #bikeforbutterflies, dominated by hills, long names, Small Tortoiseshells & dozens of Red Admirals Butterfly Conservation 🦋

The last day of #bikeforbutterflies is another Red Admiral day! At least a couple of dozen braving the 20+mph winds along the country lanes to Holyhead. They seemed to be checking me out ... Butterfly Conservation 🦋

Completed my #BikeForButterflies! Tired, but happy after 50 hours in the saddle. 19 species of butterfly seen, but alarmed at low numbers. Donate to enable Butterfly Conservation 🦋 do more to help them - and share this widely. Thanks. justgiving.com/campaign/bikef…

This is an historic photo. Congratulations to William Brame (who took the photo) for realising this was a different white butterfly. Now confirmed by Chris van Swaay as a Southern Small White - the first seen in England. As it is a female let's hope it has been laying eggs.
