What do statistics of “significance” actually mean? Note: Clear for non-math folks 🙂 eg Failure to show association ≠ Evidence there’s no association eg p-value 0.8 does not necessarily mean it’s a null study podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ann… #MedEd #MedTwitter Annals of Int Med Robert Centor MD MACP 🇮🇱 @rmcentor.bsky.social

Top 10 career advice that’s served me well as a #womeninmedicine 1️⃣: Build your career outside your institution. Took this to heart when I first heard it year 3 as attending. Following it has paid for itself 10 fold.

Next Top 10 career advice that’s served me well as a #womeninmedicine 2️⃣: Invest in your own professional development & don’t “wait” for someone else to see your potential. Especially 👩🏻‍⚕️🧑🏽‍⚕️👩🏼‍⚕️, as we are less likely to be mentored/sponsored. Take courses, nominate yourself.

Next Top 10 career advice that’s served me well as a #womeninmedicine 3️⃣:Have regular, routine updates (email, 1:1) w your sup. Tell him/her briefly what you’re up to. Don’t assume he/she knows (they don’t); be specific on your work &goals to position yourself for the next level

Next Top 10 career advice that’s served me well as a #womeninmedicine (Here’s #6) 6️⃣Build allies & put aside differences. You don’t have to be besties w your allies. You just have to trust/respect them. Allies are incredibly important for 👩🏼‍⚕️👩🏾‍⚕️🧑🏽‍⚕️. Build them before you need them.

Kudos to UAB GIM KeAndrea Titer-Abrahams, MD, Karla Williams, & Lisa Willett for launching "Closing the Divide: Building Trust by Addressing Bias in Medicine," a platform that helps professionals develop skills to respond to biased behaviors in medicine. loom.ly/jU-6Hzk
