Plenty of people will blame the striker but we don’t get the ball into the final third anywhere near enough. I don’t think prime R9 would score many in these preseason games. It’s only preseason so no need to panic yet but we can’t have a repeat of last season’s lack of service.

I know everybody is desperate for a striker but I really don’t think that’s this team’s biggest issue. The service into the box is NON-EXISTENT outside of Josh Tymon’s excellent deliveries. A better no. 9 would be nice but what’s the point if we can’t get the ball into the box?

Is Oli McBurnie a better striker than what we have? Absolutely. Do I think he’ll make a massive difference? Not really. Service into the box and a lack of decisiveness in the final third was our biggest problem last season. McBurnie, like our other strikers, relies on service.

oli mcburnie has had one good season since leaving the swans 6 years ago. and he's had one season which he put up liam cullens numbers last season which majority deem cullen not good enough so why is mcburnie good enough. nostalgia and nothing else we need something better.

Swansea City midfielder Ben Lloyd has signed an extension to his contract and will join Newport County on loan until January 2026 ✍️ Best of luck, Ben Lloyd! 🙌

Ben Lloyd is having a really solid debut for Newport tonight. He’s playing as a 6 in the middle of a midfield 3 in a physical away game - exactly the type of loan I think he needed. Technically brilliant player but probably wasn’t quite at Championship-level physicality yet.
