I had a fun morning Leiden University - Faculty of Humanities, contributing to a video about the study of #languages & #cultures here at Universiteit Leiden. I even got to do a bit of show-and-tell…

If you're working on #China's foreign policy, security issues, and especially South-South relations, you may find Bernardo Mariani's new report interesting: peacerep.org/wp-content/upl…

I'm super psyched to return to Turin this summer to give two talks at the TOChina Summer School, organized by Giovanni B. Andornino and his team. If you're a #China Studies grad student, alumni, or interested professional, consider signing up. Very cool line-up: tochina.it/training/tochi…

Wow, Manya Koetse, thank you so much for this concise and thoughtful overview of my inaugural lecture Universiteit Leiden yesterday. I couldn't have wished for better coverage! And hearing that the head of What's on Weibo could find herself in these digital #China issues really means a lot. :)

Thank you, China Digital. It was great having you there. And yes, the feeling's entirely mutual: looking forward to all the great (and fun!) things we'll be getting up to Universiteit Leiden in the coming years, especially now that we have so much excellent 'digital Asia' talent here.

If you want to read more about my inaugural lecture Leiden University - Faculty of Humanities yesterday, I gave an interview about it here (available in English and Dutch): staff.universiteitleiden.nl/news/2024/04/c…

Oh, and while we're at it: the full 'oratie' (inaugural lecture) is also available as a pdf. If you want to read about 'Feeling the Nudge: #PoliticalCommunication and #Governance in Digital #China', you can access the speech here: …rlypublications.universiteitleiden.nl/handle/1887/37…

Last Monday, June 6th, Professor Florian Schneider, the professor Modern China Universiteit Leiden and Academic Director of the LeidenAsiaCentre, delivered his inaugural lecture titled "Feeling the nudge: political communication and governance in digital China."

What an amazing line-up. If you're in or near Oxford and want to hear a great discussion about contemporary #China, I can warmly recommend joining Carwyn Morris 👉 carwynmorris.bsky.social, Margaret Hillenbrand, Pang Laikwan, Frederico Picerni, and Qian Huang 黄倩 for this event. I'm really jealous I'm not there.

I'm sure there'll be a BA thesis, or at least a term paper or two, in this for creative #ChineseStudies students here Leiden University - Faculty of Humanities. That would give me a chance to learn more about this, without having to play it myself... F2P gotcha mobile games aren't really my jam. #gamestudies

Good to be back on the conference circuit and to hear so many intriguing talks. If I had to quibble: it would be the pinnacle of awesome if speakers could stop reading their papers or slides to me. Here's a bit of advice, on how to improve such talks. politicseastasia.com/studying/five-…

I'm psyched that #Games and #Play in #Chinese and Sinophone Cultures is now out. Guo, Eyman, and Sun did an amazing job editing this. And: #openaccess! Also: there's a contribution in there by yours truly, on the videogame Chinese Parents (ä¸ĺ›˝ĺĽŹĺ®¶é•ż)... uw.manifoldapp.org/projects/games…

For our #AsianStudies colleagues, especially those interested in #AI, here's a call-for-papers, for our next special issue in #Asiascape: Digital Asia. Join my colleague Haiqing Yu Yu and myself as we explore 'AI Imaginaries in the Asia Pacific'. brill.com/view/journals/…

I had the great pleasure to participate in this Leiden University - Faculty of Humanities video, which provides spirited examples of why the #humanities are so crucial to our understanding of the world. A much-needed reminder of how short-sighted it is to defund all we've built here: youtube.com/watch?v=PLLAGl…
