A little late to post, but in the past couple of weeks, I successfully defended my Master’s thesis and graduated from Hawai’i Pacific University! Excited to figure out my next steps! #firstgenstudent #MarineScience #graduation2022

I had the best time speaking w/ STEM educators from across the Hawaiian islands about my virtual coral reef curriculum & how addressing our real world problems in the classroom requires inclusion of community & a sense of place. Mahalo to these inspirational leaders! #WomenInSTEM

We are excited about our upcoming first field trip since the pandemic hit, we are heading for Sarawak in Malaysia. Taking river and seawater samples from ridge to reef and coring some Porites bommies. So relieved to finally enable our PhD students to experience a coral reef.

In an attempt to establish a scientific twitter presence, let me introduce myself. I'm Jess! I am a second-year master’s student Hawaiʻi Pacific University examining the chronic effects of #oceanacidification on the #geochemistry of coral skeletons. The goal is to begin my Ph.D. fall 2023!

Our first coral cores from Hawai‘i: Jess Caylee Hankins holds a piece of core that—based on a rough estimate of growth rates—probably covers about two decades in the mid-1800s

The Sclerochronology lab's first paper HPU Marine Science is out today! In #ASLO_Letters, Hanna Mantanona shows that, surprisingly, coral calcifying fluid saturation state is elevated during and after bleaching events aslopubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/lo…
