Eric Jiang Duolingo works to just build a base level. I speak 5 languages, and for the last 2 I learnt (Portuguese and Russian) I started studying them by using Duolingo, and then I just started talking to people and making friends who would help me reach fluency in the language Good luck

I’ll say this and say it again any day. Duolingo shines when you already have a solid foundation in a language. It’s less for learning from scratch and more for reinforcing what you know

Eric Jiang No, it will never get you there. Learning a language properly is thousands of hours of hard work - Duolingo subscribers just want a dopamine hit for 30 minutes a week. One good method to learn a language is Steve Kaufman's who learned 15+ languages - watch on YouTube.

Eric Jiang Funny that I see this today. I just hit 2k streak and decided I'm done with Duolingo. Not sure what I'll be replacing it with, but I don't want to support the company no matter how cute the bird is or all the little games.

Eric Jiang A friend of mine has learned Spanish primarily through duolingo and now he asks other Spanish speakers at work for words and phrases... He's speaking super well. Picked it up quickly.
