I miss the Twitter days when my feed was full of foreign policy, econ and int'l dev papers. Now it's a weird mess with a clear bias towards engagement. Need an algorithmic control panel to help customise/optimise feeds. Maybe powered by LLM + vector embeddings + graph theory?

I kinda miss having the time to get into all sorts of weird interests, subcultures, academic subjects, music scenes, countercultures, and meeting odd people. I still get to do it a lot, but over time you do feel how other parts of life end up taking over a bit. It's easy to give

It's so funny how these guys say "import the third world, become the third world" and then their own policy preferences end up converging with the taliban

My opinion of Bluesky has deteriorated; it’s really too much of an echo chamber and if you cross the wrong crowd it can be highly intolerant of even mild disagreement.

I am continually amazed by the lack of curiosity in base models. Everyone uses chatbots regularly nowadays while having no idea base models even exist. This is totally upside down! Base models are fundamental! In a sane world they're mandatory school curriculum.

Most IQ and hereditarian discourse is pointless because most people talking about such are either motivated by petty resentments+using it as ego proxy, or have zero realistic desire to better things. Easier to just post bell curves instead of embryo selection advocacy.

Both rationalists and ideologues are prone to miss the persistent difference between what the arguments say and how reality plays out. Inference is brittle, ideology distorts.

IMO chain of thought monitoring is actually pretty great. It gives additional safety and should be widely used on frontier models CoT improves capabilities. Thoughts are intermediate state of computation. On the hardest tasks, they have real info It's not perfect, but what is?

Shocked a piece like this would make basic, easily verifiable mistakes. But I’m sure the other broad assertions are well grounded in the evidence.
