There will be a transition period beginning Sept 16 for owners/occupiers of retail, commercial and residential buildings on many city centre streets who will not be allowed present waste in plastic bags on streets. Full compliance expected in Phase 1 area by Jan 1.

The new waste management and street cleaning measures announced by DCC this evening sound very promising. And great to see progress while our seagull calendar is still current! Looking forward to hearing more details. And hoping we won't need a 2025 calendar edition now!

Local residents are highly supportive of the introduction of this patrol by Waterways Ireland as part of their efforts to move towards reopening this key amenity in the city after over four months of the canal banks being barricaded and closed to the public.

A lovely tribute to the much missed local community activist Siobhán Cuffe Wallace with a dedication to her memory on the new benches on her beloved Upper Baggot Street, outside the Baggot Street Hospital that she fought so hard to bring back into use for the community.

Some good news! The first section of barriers on the Grand Canal has come down today. More sections will follow. Thank you to @waterwaysirelan for working with us on addressing this difficult situation over recent months.

Our committee met with this Dublin City Centre Taskforce over the summer. Its mission was to "take a holistic view of the measures required to rejuvenate Dublin City Centre, north and south." We hope to see actions proposed to achieve this when its report is published next week.

The new Mary Lavin Place will be a very positive addition to the area, honoring a great Irish writer, who lived on the adjacent lane for many years. It's also great to have Wilton Park reopening after a long closure.

While we'd argue the city core also needs a more visible police presence David McWilliams is 100% right that Dublin needs many more residents in its core. Not having them meant the pandemic knocked the city badly. Our vision is for a large sustainable mixed-income residential community.
