When the argument is always "No margin, no mission" there is no limiting factor on what profit-seeking behavior tax-exempt hospitals will engage in. Open a private equity subsidiary? 340B at a clinic in Bevery Hills? Garnish wages for unpaid bills? "No margin, no mission!"

Hospital prices are driving inflation. A new The Wall Street Journal article shows how hospital prices are rapidly increasing. This gets passed on to consumers with higher premiums and out of pocket costs. When employers try to make up for the higher costs, they end up raising prices as well.
