The future of education is inexorably tied to the future of how we live together. Eager to hear what you all learned about inter generational living and learning

Needed in discussions of AI in education: less hype, more critique alongside exploration of potential. I'd rather see critique and exploration combined; if we have to choose one camp or another we end up with a distorted, incomplete vision.

1. This is so cool and having FOMO for not being able to go. 2. We’re hosting something similar, but connecting teams of expert educators with technologists to imagine new AI interfaces for learning that are also malleable. First sprint starts in 3 weeks. Dm for details.

Cool to see the FTC advocating for open weights models in a context where lots of policymakers (eg California) risk torpedoing open models…

Now that we have a frontier model that's open-weight (not open-source), it's time to go back to all those ambitious use cases where open-weight models failed to deliver (agents) and try again, so we can have reproducible science and not worry about API models getting deprecated.

Bummed to see one of the cooler learning companies close down. Closest thing I’ve seen to scaling the kind of powerful learning and community you see at places like Recurse Center

Not a good look for publishers to do this without notice or asking authors to consent… Wonder if this will be another thing that drives academics away from working with large publishers like T&F? And maybe that’s a good thing?

“They used a platform called Playlab, a nonprofit that gives teachers access to large language AI models with guardrails built in.” Jenny Brundin npr.org/2024/11/04/nx-… #edcolo DSST Public Schools Yusuf Ahmad

Appreciated this. Esp a) malleable software is the future. And we’re super early here which is why it’s hard to grok what this might mean or look like and b) we’ve barely explored design space of what is possible with new AI models for code editing and HCI more broadly…

AI labs have products that people increasingly rely on for serious things & build workflows around. Every update breaks some of those and enables new ones Provide a changelog, testing info, anything indicating what happened! Mysterious drops are fun for X, bad for everyone else.

✨ New AI Interfaces powered by Interpretability I'm excited to share LatentLit, the result of my applied AI research fellowship with Goodfire Mechanistic interpretability isn’t just important for AI safety, it also gives us new ways to steer and interact with LLMs.

Haven’t read Ezra Klein’s Abundance yet, but enjoyed Sam Moyn’s review in the NYT this morning: an abundant future requires activating more people as agents in both their own futures and in building our collective futures. More creators, not consumers, is the path to abundance.

A fair way of describing alpha: personalized learning apps in the morning (IXL et ) and workshops / 21st C learning in the afternoon. This review describes it fairly IMO: docs.google.com/document/d/1zD… Curious how Matt Bateman and others will further evolve the model….

the media mistakes montessori as a brand, or an expensive subset of oddly specific wooden playthings the truth is that it's closer to an operating system than a school system you don't need montessori school, but you do need montessori thinking:
