Unrelenting crisis. And one that disproportionately impacts w/class, communities of colour much more aggressively, as reported by Runnymede Trust Claims to 'difficult choices' feel insulting to those ppl struggling to survive. runnymedetrust.org/publications/f…

New term bout to start. How will sch communities be supported to address the racist violence that we witnessed over holidays? Building anti-racist schs should be a govt priority, relying on exclusions is not a long term answer. Children reflect society. google.com/amp/s/www.mirr…

As we said this summer, prisons (and now exclusions) do not fix the problem of racism. Addressing structural racism and the material inequalities it imposes is critical. Bridget Phillipson must make anti-racism an education priority and support school communities.

From beginning, the inquiry refused to investigate racial discrimination; this omission explains why it does not report on structural racism or understand the incentives/insensitivities of why w/class, people of colour are more likely to live in housing that's not fit for purpose

'Community cohesion' approaches offer palatable 'solutions' but they downplay racism and austerity and often blame the very people who have been victimised by this summer's brutal violence. runnymedetrust.org/news/community…

Yep, I want to live in a cohesive community but focusing on 'more social contact' doesn't fix racism or austerity and risks exonerating govt/s from their active promotion of both.

A narrative that obscures the intersection between race and class and the importance of solidarity, both within and beyond our own specific communities, is a narrative that only empowers those who wish to divide and exploit us. search.app/?link=https%3A…

“Politicians are engaging in a popularity contest and that popularity contest is measured by how far they are willing to bully and demonise Muslims. And that has become not just an acceptable kind of currency, but a way in which to earn your political stripes.” – Shabna Begum

Reading Malcolm X's biography as a teenager, was one of my formative experiences. Looking forward to this conversation 👇🏾

Had gone on the show, wondering what I might have to say about NI/EU trade rule changes & planning reforms - but I should have known that even these issues will be dragged into explanations that blame immigrants... Love representing Runnymede Trust

By refusing even to accept the designations of genocide and ethnic cleansing, let alone act upon them, Israel’s allies force an adaptation on to the world after which it simply becomes accepted that rights are not bestowed by humanity, but by the parties who decide who is human.

Five years on from the murder of George Floyd, it's our collective responsibility to keep resisting. Whether it's police racism, securitised borders, planetary destruction or genocide in Gaza - they are all linked by a selective denial of humanity, in particular to racialised ppl
