Good thread on the damage downtown. Most of the CBD is fine. But there are pockets of severe damage. Urban canyon effect probably at play here in some respect. But the majority of our city’s damage is in neighborhoods where people live. This will take a long time to recover from.

Rebecca Schuetz and I looked into about 56K tickets related to homelessness over the past 4 years. We found that some folks are ticketed by HPD repeatedly (sometimes hundreds or thousands of times) for the same offenses and in the same areas.

Remember when University of Houston said a student was arrested for assaulting a police officer during a pro-Palestinian protest earlier this month? After I couldn’t find any such charges, the university and Harris County District Attorney began dodging my questions axios.com/local/houston/…

University of Houston said a student was arrested for assaulting an officer during the pro-Palestine encampment earlier this month. But there's no evidence that anyone at the protest was charged with such a crime. Great scoop by Jay: axios.com/local/houston/…

NEW: Andrew Cuomo just conceded the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City to Zohran Kwame Mamdani. Cuomo had universal name ID, a $25M PAC backing him and tons of institutional endorsements. Mamdani is a 33-year-old socialist. The magnitude of this can't be overstated.
