Last week saw publication of the long awaited "Fair Shares? Sorting out money and property on divorce" report, funded by the Nuffield Foundation. The report considers the full spectrum of financial arrangements made by divorcing couples and is not limited to high net worth cases.

There is so much depressing reading in the outstanding research of Emma Hitchings , to be found here nuffieldfoundation.org/project/fair-s… ALL family lawyers should read this research and ask themselves, "What can we do better to ensure all divorcees can see the cost benefit of legal advice?"

Useful article on domestic abuse (DA) in FR cases. For practitioners the prevalence of DA amongst clients is important to note: The Fair Shares Project study found that nearly 1 in 6 of those who had used a lawyer throughout the process gave DA as a reason for doing so.

A very enjoyable hour recording this podcast with the fabulous Jo Edwards and @Gill_D1111 discussing the findings from the Fair Shares Project project.

A short The Times and The Sunday Times comment by @Gill_D1111 and me, where we look at the financial reality for the majority of divorcees and suggest that any reform which provides for a rigid 50-50 division of assets without taking this into account is unlikely to be fair. thetimes.co.uk/article/362eaa…
