After nearly 3 hours of debate the proposal to list the Requiem Shark family has been passed in Committee. It requires confirmation in Plenary next week, but assuming that it is, this is a big step forward in #sharkconservation. #CITES4sharks

The vote in favour of Proposal 37 has been swiftly followed by a consensus decision in favour of Proposal 38 - so that's a recommendation to put Hammerhead #sharks on #CITES Appendix II in addition to all Requiem sharks #CITESCoP19 #ForNature

BIG NEWS! If this is adopted in the coming days it will bump protected shark species to around 90%. Critically important for sharks and the ecosystems that depend on their health.
