1/ After Lakshman left the earthly realm, Shri Ram was overwhelmed with grief. He decided to leave for Vaikuntha, but before that, he wanted to secure Ayodhya’s future.

2/ Rama offered the throne to Bharata, but Bharata declined: "I swear, O Raghuvanshi, I do not desire kingship without you — not even heaven itself!" Instead, Bharata suggested consecrating Lava and Kusha as rulers of Kosala.

3/ Following Bharata’s advice, Shri Ram crowned Kusha as King of South Kosala and Lava as King of North Kosala, gifting them elephants, horses, chariots, and vast wealth to establish prosperous kingdoms. (Valmiki Ramayana, Uttara Kanda, Canto 107)

4/ Kusha, Rama’s eldest son, rebuilt Ayodhya and continued the Ikshvaku lineage. Lava ruled North Kosala, making Lahore his capital.

5/ After Kusha, Ayodhya remained under the rule of the Suryavansh dynasty for 44 generations, keeping alive the legacy of Lord Rama.

6/ Thus, the kingdom of Rama flourished under his sons, with Ayodhya as a beacon of dharma and royal lineage long after his return to Vaikuntha.
