The Berkeley Science Review is #crowdfunding to raise money to overcome distribution challenges from #COVID19. It would mean so much to us if you donated to support our grad student-run publications! Learn more 👇👇👇 crowdfund.berkeley.edu/project/24403

Check out this paper, which combines a redox-sensor and CRISPR adaptation to store digital information directly into living E. coli genomes. We wrote a news & views to accompany it. Also, welcome to twitter Santi Bhattarai-Kline and Sierra Lear! rdcu.be/cefkf

New preprint! We've been using bacterial retroelements, retrons, as a flexible platform for DNA production in cells. We found a single retron architecture that produces DNA in bacteria, yeast, and human cells, with applications in genome editing. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Classes are almost over UC Berkeley, and we have some exciting news coming soon too from the BSR! We can't wait to show you what's coming! Watch this space soon! 🤩🤩🤩

I had a lot of fun participating in this interview for Gladstone! Take a look; I talk not only about my research but also about my path to grad school and secret love of foosball...

I’m excited to share our new paper on the fundamental biology of RETRONS. Retrons are incredible molecular machines that produce small fragments of reverse transcribed DNA in bacteria that functions in phage defense. academic.oup.com/nar/advance-ar… Nucleic Acids Res Gladstone Institutes UCSF Bioengineering & Therapeutic Sciences

I had a lot of fun thinking, reading, and writing about how we can record transcriptional events in DNA, & I'm super thrilled to see this out now!

Just posted new work from Sierra Lear on a high-throughput approach to determine whether synthetic proteins you intend to send to the mitochondria are actually getting there: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Super glad to finally see this one officially out! I had a blast working on this one, despite (or perhaps because of) the very long page count :)

BSR was one of my most valuable and meaningful experiences during the PhD! Please support them so they can continue to educate grad students about effective #scicomm and the surrounding public about the coolest Cal research!
