The CFL changes announced today are not exactly Major but they were Necessary and in some cases long overdue. My column on today’s announcement by commissioner Stewart Johnston and the panic that wasn’t.

Not so Milt. The Rouge is still alive. The cheap Rouge (missed field goal etc) is gone.

The Rouge rule should have been changed years ago. It was always foolish to award points for missing field goals. The fact it took this long tells you how weak the last many CFL commissioners have been.

The CFL will still be played by 12 players, on a wide field, with three downs and tons of motion. How this makes the league more American is a mystery to me.

Could this be the last start of Max Scherzer's Major League career? His earned run average in September is 10.92. He shouldn't have survived the first inning tonight.
