Excellent to have a roundtable meeting with the Cabinet of Tonga as part of Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters’ multi-country visit to the Pacific. We covered a broad range of topics, including strengthening climate resilience and transitioning to renewable energy.

While in Nuku’alofa, the Deputy Prime Ministers of Tonga and New Zealand launched a maritime safety campaign: “Be Ready, Be Safe.” The programme aims to increase community awareness of maritime safety practices and use of safety in equipment.

While in Tonga with the delegation, I got to stop by the Tonga Health Secondary Schools Athletics and catch the girls intermediate 100m final. Great energy and plenty of support from the crowd!

On the ground in Honolulu with the New Zealand delegation. We were warmly welcomed and spent time today at the USS Missouri, reflecting on the shared history and sacrifices New Zealand and the United States have made to support peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.

Great to reconnect with Fiji’s Deputy PM Prasad before departing Nadi. We discussed shared goals for economic growth and climate resilience in our region.

A productive exchange with the ASEAN Secretary General, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn. We discussed the ASEAN-New Zealand relationship and opportunities to work together through innovation to reach our global climate goals.

Excellent meeting with the Danish Ambassador Ingrid Dahl-Madsen this afternoon. We discussed accelerating clean energy, sharing innovation and strengthening cooperation on climate action.

A pleasure to meet with Australia’s new High Commissioner, H.E. Daniel Sloper. We discussed Trans-Tasman energy cooperation, the 2+2 Climate and Finance Dialogue, enhancing climate resilience across the Pacific, and Australia’s bid to host COP31. Australian High Commission, New Zealand
