One of the most sad and disheartening things I learned during Francesca's illness is because childhood cancer drugs are not profitable almost all the funding for research for diseases like ATRT came from private foundations founded by parents who lost children.

My first win as a scientist came in this morning in the form of hundreds of messages from my friends and an NSF GRFP Honorable Mention!! 🤩
