Just had the pleasure of joining @DrShepherd2013 on Weather Geeks to discuss last winter, atmospheric rivers, and running a snow lab. Great to finally connect with him as his sci-comm skills have been a source of inspiration! I'll post the link when the episode comes out.

A terrific opportunity for someone interested in doing their PhD in #fire weather and pyrocumulonimbus cloud structure from one of our partners at the University of Queensland Atmospheric Observations Research Group in Australia!

The first big snowfall of the year always takes me back to being a kid on the Colorado front range. So much anticipation and excitement! How much will we get? What will the worst conditions be like? So many fun thoughts and questions.

I was delighted to have the chance to speak with Melissa Hobson at National Geographic last week about #snow, its importance, and what a loss of snow will do as climate change progresses. Here's the terrific story that she put together! nationalgeographic.com/environment/ar…

These fast moving cells are not great, in my experience, at yielding high snowfall totals (as compared to solid stratiform precip shield), and at this point in the storm I’d say the mesoscale details are working against some of the high-end predicted totals. Long way to go…

I talk a lot about snow, the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab, and our research in this interview but, perhaps the most important part of this interview, especially in an election year, is this-
