As someone who is a slow thinker I've always thought we in science put too much emphasis on fast thinking, Q&As, chalk talks, thesis exams, many classroom interactions are geared towards rewarding speed. But in science what matters is not who thinks fastest but who thinks deepest

A few terrestrial encounters with Macrocystis to precede a summer of diving amongst those majestic fronds. (ā€œStokedā€ has become a top word in my vocabulary)

Hello science twitter, i’ve got a beautiful annelid here that we believe to be a member of the phyllodocidae family that needs further identification. Roughly 7 centimeters in length, found in the rocky intertidal off of Cape Arago state park in Oregon. #annelid #marine

Got to do some *fun* charter dives with Samantha Persad yesterday down at Port Orford! It was nice to put the scientist in me on pause and just enjoy getting to do my first dives with my student and collaborator! We saw a young Pycnopodia(!) and limited on fish with the speargun! YUM!

A 🧵 on burnout Yesterday I learned that when people are burnt out, their amygdala enlarges. For all you non-neuroscientists, here's what that means and why it's important. 1/ #AcademicChatter Academic Chatterā„¢ Academic Encouragement

I’m so stoked for CTEL members Samantha Persad (MS student) and J’mie Lawrence (#REU student)! They did an awesome job presenting at #WSN2022 today! The room was so loud and crowded it was basically a mosh pit 😹 at a Seattle grunge rock concert in the 90s, and they rocked it šŸ¤™!
