Looking at our flood meadows today. After such a hard time they had over winter, please to see how they are doing. The wetter areas are quite bare but look closer to see seedlings. Maybe not so much hay this year, but they will be back to there glory in time.

This is a flowering, hardly grazed knapweed plant in a grazing cell we came out of a couple of days ago with ~50 head cattle. Managed grazing and biodiversity, a wee🧵

I’m certain some people think our garden is a right old mess. But look! If I’d have pulled up these thistles this charm of Goldfinches wouldn’t have stopped by for their dinner. ✨

In light of recent events I’ve been looking at the number of major floods on local rivers over the last 30 years. It’s quite an eye opener. The last 5 years has seen around three times more than the preceding 6 five years. May even be time for a couple more!

Whether it's cuts to farm payments, completely inaccessible environmental schemes, changes to inheritance tax, appalling trade deals, or policies which disincentivise food production - farmers are being hammered by government. I will continue to fight to make their voice heard.

Composting #dairyfarm wastes that end up in slurry is practical and economically viable on farms, with #anaerobiccomposting (Bokashi) showing the most potential for improving bioavailability of nutrients for #plant growth. Debbie Wilkins bit.ly/3ZHpTtz

🚜FARMAGEDDON🌾 The story of what's REALLY going on in farming. A story far more complex than the conventional wisdom. This isn't just (or even mainly) about inheritance tax. It's about a cascade of challenges & crises that may ultimately threaten food security. 📽️5 min primer👇

Soil microbial diversity functions as the metabolic engine driving agricultural productivity, yet the typical suite of pesticides used in conventional farming practices systematically dismantle this biological infrastructure through chemical interventions that sacrifice ecosystem
