With Stuart McMillan doing the podcast tour I predict social media will shift gears from the zone 2 hype/madness and more people will start training to be a little faster. Everyone can jog but not everyone can sprint! GuruAnaerobic would appreciate it

Sleep hygiene and behavior matter most, but there’s a couple supplements that can be the cherry on top. open.substack.com/pub/seanlangan…

The caloric expenditure during running is dependent on distance, not time. Based on our muscle and liver glycogen when we're adequately fed, for the half-marathon and below you really don't need to consume carbs during exercise for a performance benefit. seanlangan.substack.com/p/when-is-it-n…

Nils van Der Poel, Olympic gold medalist speed skater (5k & 10k), published an awesome document detailing his training over a 3 year period before his gold medal. It's a goldmine of training information, whether you like speed skating or not. howtoskate.se/_files/ugd/e11… Michael Joyner

With physiology, few things are free. There's always a give and take. Mouthwash cleans your teeth but reduces nitric oxide production by killing oral bacteria. Anti-histamines may cure that runny nose, but also...take away the benefits of exercise? seanlangan.substack.com/p/are-we-aller…

I'm helping someone do some scientific fact-checking for a project surrounding heat, hydration, exercise, etc. and I forgot how seemingly complicated the literature is on whether dehydration actually decreases endurance performance. Best example of an "it depends" type answer

This is clearly comprehensive and resource-intensive work. However, things become less convincing when we take a closer look at the human data, which were the original basis for identifying increases in betaine as a long-term exercise-induced change.

Are people still trying to say exogenous ketones acutely increase performance? Ketone-IQ also needs a better scientific PR team. They mention a study apparently on one of the best cycling teams in the world. Reporting an "elite level VO2max" of 55.... ketone.com/blogs/blog/tea…

Where can I find normative data on things like pull ups, push ups, or other normal strength exercises by age and sex? I don't want research-grade tests like leg extension force. Even if it comes from specialized populations like military or law enforcement, that's good enough.

Some cool data from my dissertation. Forearm deoxygenation increased after heat acclimation and correlated with time trial performance. Saw something similar in the calf, but not when controlling for distance ran.
