RIP:STARS are ready and waiting for this. They want to see real change so that another generation of disabled children and young people are not failed by a system which doesn’t meet their needs.

Shame on you DfE. We and other disabled young people turned up for this inquiry. We faced difficult questions and gave our responses. Don’t fail us again.

The headlines are shocking and as disabled young people we know we have been let down and neglected by the system. We have experienced this ourselves, it’s hard to hear that many of the 1.2 million disabled young people have too. We have to look forward and ensure things change.

The inquiry recognises a need for a culture change within schools, local authorities and government. It’s important that the culture change should not only meet disabled young people’s needs but recognise their rights. Receiving support in childhood is a stepping stone for life.

We hear EHCPs are not being issued for a year despite being agreed and disabled yp are being told to attend the next years annual review so their college doesn’t get into trouble. No plan, no support, But college tick the box. Real accountability for disabled young people needed.

The #SEND inquiry calls for culture change. We called for this last year with our RIPSTARS evidenced based quality framework for SEND. ripstars.net. Pls contact for more info. We are looking for LA partners to implement the framework. Anita Franklin Prof Geraldine Brady

#SEND Report published today - NDTi’s Linda Jordan says there is still confusion and reliance on the medical model and traditional labels rather than support for young people to have good life outcomes beyond their education ndti.org.uk/news/ndti-evid…

3 important points that might get lost in the horror of the #SEND inquiry report. - disabled young people’s right to be involved in decisions - support should help us achieve hopes and dreams. - it’s not just education. Wider life goals should be supported by all agencies.
