Here's 8 messages for coaches to reflect on: *I could have written 100* (THREAD) 🧵

1. Let the game be the teacher? Nonsense! Why would the expert with knowledge say nothing and impart no information?

2. Technical coaching from an early age The research is clear. Without the technical capabilities, players will struggle as they get older

3. Players only have the ball for 2-3 minutes of a game What do we as coaches need to help them with for the rest of the 88 minutes? To think, run, communicate, and make off-ball decisions → A LOT

4. Every behaviour needs a consequence Players must see the result of good or bad behaviours

5. "Actions, not blag" Do your players know what hard work actually feels like?

6. Make player experience hard The harder we can make players experiences, the more chance that the "talented" players can achieve long-term success

7. Enjoy the awkward silence You have to be brave as a coach to embrace the usual silence when you ask a question. Why ask the question if you will answer for your players?

8. Job security in academies When designing your own career pathway as a coach, it is well known that the safest jobs are in academy football. How can you be sacked on a long-term player development view?
