Couldn't resist these two in Oxfam Books on Victoria Road: first 1926 edition of MacDiarmid's 'Penny Wheep', due but presumably not returned to Glasgow Public Libraries on April Fool's Day 1960 - and The Dark Horse praising swans. £1.99 for MacD and £12.99 for Gerry Cambridge!

Ever an exciting moment when a new equine form gallops out of the stable of poetics. This time including a review essay of mine on that dark horse of the first Scottish renaissance, Gavin Douglas. 🐴📚

Lovely to have a translation commended in the 2023 Stephen Spender Prize - of an anonymous Latin poem, ca. 10th C. Poem below. A nice validation of an activity I find really nourishing but tend not to seek publication for so much as my 'own' poems...

Looking forward to this in a few weeks - reading 14 March, 7pm at Alchemy Experiment for Gutter Glasgow launch. Not been at an in-person poetry thing since my family expanded last year so an exciting moment!

Not doing too much critical stuff atm, but it's been a real pleasure recently to review Bill Findlay and Martin Bowman's Scots versions of Michel Tremblay Association for Scottish Literature for 'Translation and Literature', which has long been a journal I've admired and learned from. 📚🙏

To my eye, this potato feels very humanoid in a stone age sculpture kind of way - Venus of Willendorf, Brodgar figurine echoes. Almost a shame to consume it.
