Just after Friday's storm, our invertebrate keepers faced a challenge they won't soon forget: Safely capturing an entire dome full of butterflies. It may be quite a while until the Butterfly Wing reopens, but we hope to bring back this beloved part of the Zoo as soon as we can.

Trunks up for teamwork! Thanks to a tremendous effort from so many members of Zoo staff, especially the horticulture team, storm damage has now been cleared enough that today we reopened both the Emerson Zooline Railroad and the River's Edge area of the Zoo.

After the recent storm brought down hundreds of trees in the Zoo, keepers got to work to make the most of the debris! 🌿🍃 Our nutrition team collected more than 1,000 pounds of leaves from fallen limbs to be used as snacks and enrichment for the animals for months to come!

The giant tortoises are making moves (at a leisurely pace, of course.) 🐢 Guests recently lined up to watch our five giant tortoises make their slow and steady way into the outdoor habitats by the Charles H. Hoessle Herpetarium for the summer.

It's Pollinator Week, so what better time to spread the buzz about these important animals? About 90% of all flowering plant species rely on pollinators to survive, making them essential to creating a healthy ecosystem and food supply.

Happy #Arch630Day! The Gateway Arch is iconic at over 630-feet wide AND tall. You would need to stack our elephant calf Jet 158 times to reach that height (or 145 if you count the four inches of hair on his fuzzy head! 🥹)
