Lunch was taken at Avril's Tea Rooms where we had a visit from the local wildlife. 🐓🐔 It was then onto the Newfoundland Memorial Park, which is a memorial to the Newfoundlanders who died during the First World War.

And then onto the most famous stop of the whole trip, to visit the Theipval Memorial to the Somme. This is a memorial to the 72,337 British and South African servicemen who died in the Battle of the Somme and who have no known grave.

Day 3 of the St Monica's RC High Battlefields Trip and we are focusing on the Battle of Passchendaele 1917. Plenty of museums today as well as Commonwealth War Graves Tyne Cot Cemetery and Langemark German Military Cemetery. It's also Nina and Ted's Birthdays today and badges must be worn at all times. 🎉

We are now on the road out of Ieper / Ypres and are heading to our first stop of the day - the hoogecratermuseum Museum. As always, there are cemeteries down every road around Ypres. We've also driven around Hellfire Corner. We've just driven next to a recently dug up WW1 gas shell.

After Supper, the students of St Monica's RC High St Teresa of Calcutta CAT took part in the daily Menin Gate Last Post Ceremony underneath the Menin Gate. William and Anna represented the school and laid our wreath. We finished the evening with a trip to Leonidas Chocolate Shop. #1Bar1Box1fromtheShelf

We spent some time this morning at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. Richie Parsons told the students about the story of Nellie Spindler and how she is the only woman buried amongst nearly 11,000 men.
