13 years ago today, the discovery of the Higgs boson, the central piece of the Standard Model, was announced! What’s something you've always wanted to know about the Higgs boson? Ask away!

Thrilled for the positive impact these grants will make across the country, especially when it comes to closing the gaps we identified in our latest #STEMM economic impact report. dol.gov/newsroom/relea…

"There's no cell on Earth that we fully understand." Testifying before @HouseScience, Hoover Science Fellow @drewendy.bsky.social told Brian Babin that without long-term public investment, bioengineering will remain trial and error—and the foundational knowledge gap will persist.

All eyes might be on the House and Senate, but I'm not done extracting everything I can from the PBR. So here's the Federal R&D Workforce tracker, that uses FTE numbers to show historical data on employment at key programs, plus proposed FY 2026 levels: aaas.org/news/tracking-…

I saw it firsthand at the #Lindau2025 Nobel Laureates meeting--international young scientists welcomed and recruited in Germany and elsewhere. Some of the very best are leaving, and many of the best will no longer come. wsj.com/politics/polic…

A whole lot of bills were just released by the House in the last 24 hours, and I've updated the dashboard with all of them. More details to come as the report language gets released after the markups, but there's already a lot to process: aaas.org/news/fy-2026-r…

This is blatantly false news. The United States is NOT suffering any sort of a "record-breaking" heat wave. In fact, 15 low temperature records are in jeopardy today, and only 5 high records. Careless general assignment "reporting" undermines meteorologists' credibility.

Ok now it’s public: the Senate CJS Bill+Report is a full defense of science at NASA and NSF. I’m at the wright bros’ field and can summarize later but here is NASA Astro at $1.6B, a ~70M increase over FY24

This evening, 56 years after the Apollo 11 moon landing, I spoke with the astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Together we shared the memory of a historic feat, a testimony to human ingenuity, and we reflected on the mystery and greatness of Creation.

Anca and I were grateful and touched to receive the highest blessing today, from His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV on the 56th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. What an honor! We prayed for good health, long life, and prosperity for all humankind. #PopeLeoXIV

Senate Appropriations Committee will mark up its Defense and Labor-HHS-Education bills next Thursday, a heavy lift. Those two bills combined typically make up roughly two-thirds of discretionary spending.

At Senate Approps I testified of risk of delayed $’s leading to pocket rescission at the NIH- cutting funds provided by Congress. Thank you ⁦Senator Katie Boyd Britt⁩ (champion of patients and science) for writing to OMB pushing for disbursement of FY25 $’s! britt.senate.gov/news/press-rel…
