“Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul.” We talk a lot in #SuicidePrevention about hopelessness, less about the uniquely human feeling of hope, and how it protects us. So, for no other reason, Emily Dickinson’s unforgettable poem. poetryfoundation.org/poems/42889/ho…

"There's never going to be enough resources for what we need, how can things improve in mental health services?" 👇 Dr Chloe Beale is on hiatus 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ says we need to see honesty, co-production not tokenism, working with the third sector and refusing to be complicit. #NSPAConf

My key messages National Suicide Prevention Alliance conference •suicide rate shows no recent rise but no fall either •rise in young people in past decade seems to have levelled off •concern over impact of economic stress •comprehensive national strategy in place, task = making it happen.

New “real-time” suicide rates out this week, taking us to June 2024. After concerns over 2023 rates & cost of living stresses, no sign that rates are currently rising. Office for Health Improvement and Disparities

New real-time national figures for suicide, taking us to August 2024. A rise in males earlier in the year raised concerns about economic risk. But it has reversed this month & may simply have been seasonal variation. Office for Health Improvement and Disparities

New real-time suicide data have been published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, taking us to October 2024. National suicide rate isn’t rising - important at time of economic stress for many. No rise in men, women or any age group. Although, needless to say, no rate is acceptable. #suicideprevention
