🐸Why did the toad cross the road? To reach it’s ancestral mating ground! Known to travel miles back to the same location to breed each year, the toad migration will be noticeable this month. They travel regardless of obstacles so keep a careful watch when driving or walking.

🐝 A bee haven in the making! Our wardens at Lackford Lakes have been clearing and reshaping the bee bank. The bare, loose soil in the bank makes perfect habitat for ground-nesting solitary bees, which will be ramping up activity in the coming months.

There's already a flurry of spring activity for birds on our reserves! At Trimley Marshes, our Warden Joe has recorded 5 pairs of lapwing displaying around the newly profiled island in the permanent lagoon. 📹 Joe Underwood

Nature can be the solution to some of our biggest challenges. Read about how our Landscape Recovery project in the Waveney Valley could help to reduce flood risks for local communities and farmers 👇 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… Thank you Vikki Irwin for sharing our story!

The Waveney and Little Ouse Recovery project is a trailblazer and should be used as a model for natural flood management nationwide. I have written to the Minister for Food Security and Rural Affairs urging his department to maintain its support for the project. SuffolkWildlifeTrust

The first signs of spring migration for Dan, our Landscape Recovery Project Manager, is the arrival of kittiwakes in Lowestoft 🏙️ After spending the winter at sea, Kittiwakes are now back on their cliffsides and selected towns for breeding ow.ly/lSkJ50VmhrA

Our species of the month is the swallow (Hirundo rustica) These attractive migratory birds can be identified by their long forked tail, pale belly and red throat and face. It was once thought that these migratory birds hibernated in the winter at the bottom of ponds!

PLEASE don't litter your cigarettes. Yesterday we found cigarettes discarded on one of our nature reserves. During the summer months, our reserves can become very dry, and a discarded cigarette could easily start a wildfire, causing devastating damage to wildlife and habitats.
