I wonder if @variety covered Once Upon A Time in Hollywood - which made 10% less at the domestic box office on 10% more theaters prepandemic and at the same budget with a similar deal structure - in the same way.

This is *such* a bizarre headline. The film’s cost is modest by studio standards, and it just had a huge opening. It’s gonna be fine. It’s been in theaters for three whole days, it doesn’t need to turn a profit just yet.

There's no such thing as "this kind of film," there's only this film, and it plays like a retread of what he used to do, not an improvement but a mere reminiscence. If it's the film he wanted to make, OK: its worth will be for the ages, completely independent of its box office.

Had a great time last night at the Sun-Ray Cinema in Tampa for Joe Bob’s Drive-In Geek-Out! We watched 2 films I’ve been wanting to see for a while now- Bubba Ho-tep & Rock N Roll HS. Thanks to Diana “Darcy the Mail Girl” Prince 🤠💌 & Joe Bob Briggs for coming out!

This triptych video for ‘Adamord’ was created from footage captured by Stars of the Lid’s longtime projectionist Luke Savisky, during soundcheck on October 11, 2016, at Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste au Béguinage in Brussels. From the final European tour.

The second season of The Rehearsal has been much better, at least conceptually; tonight's third episode, Pilot's Code, is a surprising, sublime breakthrough—Nathan Fielder has found both a worthy primary and a worthy opponent: newyorker.com/culture/the-fr…

At WBUR this week I reviewed THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME. Would you believe me if I told you that the summer’s most delightful action-comedy was directed by Wes Anderson? wbur.org/news/2025/06/0…

Why does everyone freakin type the title of the movie Seven as Se7en? The movie's called Seven, Se7en with a numeral is a design element. You don't have to slavishly recreate the title design. No one writes THE SHiNiNG every time they type The Shining, for God's sake. Cut it out!

With that new bad-ass #MortalKombatMovie trailer dropping, there’s no better time to revisit that cult classic from 1995. To celebrate 30 years of the Mortal Kombat movie, join me at Sun-Ray Cinema on July 23rd for a night of sorcerers and sexy people! Link for tickets below! ⬇️
