The Treasury Secretary "thinks" the China rate is cumulative, he's not sure though. What's the difference between 36 and 56 anyway?

Here too, there is a scientific solution but MAGA is anti-science. Mexico's egg prices have not spiked like ours because they vaccinate their chickens for bird flu - none have seemed to have developed autism.

Seriously guy, this boils down to the largest and most regressive peacetime tax hike in American history. It’s an assault on working people around the world and at home. Kicking poor nations for being poor and kicking Americans with a scam equation

Suraj Patel (@surajpatelnyc) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It is unbelievable that we don't not have Democrats who can simply call tariffs what they are a $1 trillion tax increase - the largest in US peacetime history - that is incredibly regressive and hits working people the most. Equivocating around a lie empowers the Liar in Chief

This is absolutely insane to post right now. The man is single-handedly crashing the economy and House Dems put out a vid saying, but wait tariffs can be good!!!!

The last two Democratic Presidents who reduced trade barriers, *checks notes*, were reelected and remain the most popular Presidents of the last 50 years

I am running a $4 trade deficit with Starbucks today. The only way they can fix it is to buy legal services from me, otherwise they’re “cheating”

Suraj Patel (@surajpatelnyc) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Watch carefully what’s happening: he’s going to conflate trade deficit with our fiscal deficit in the coming days. MAGA will follow suit and say “we had to do something about the deficit.” It’s not fake news, it lying and the Republican will join him rather than stop it.

Such a meeting somewhere neutral, like Geneva, Switzerland. And it could have a clear name and mission like The World Trade Organization where we could negotiate a General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs, which is a mouthful, so we will call it GATT.

I'm hearing that "they" should not shut down Treasury auctions since we must continuously refinance debt & pay for things. Treasury auctions weren't stopped during the Civil War, two World Wars, & two pandemics because they're a cornerstone of our creditworthiness.

What remains astonishing is that this isn’t a “natural” recession. There’s no cyclical slowdown or housing bubble. Consumers were holding up okay. This is about one man choosing to crash the economy because of a dumb idea, and 273 of his party’s lawmakers letting him do it.

Folks, a 10% broad tariff on everything plus 125% on China, is a **25pp increase in the effective tariff rate**, even accounting for USMCA exemptions. That's almost exactly where 2025 tariff policy was this morning. It was just less concentrated on China & more weighted overseas

Suraj Patel (@surajpatelnyc) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When he says he did the Art of a Deal, we're the ones who got played. A 10% across the board tariff is still a massive supply shock, something no normal economist would say is a "win" but he anchored us to awful and we got very bad instead.

This is the beginning of the Great Trump Energy Inflation, this bill will raise energy prices on everyday Americans by approx 15%, what in incredible own goal. Idiocracy level shit but I’m sure Susan Collins “has concerns”

My friend Christian Urrutia, Democrat for Congress (NH-01) has been a fighter his whole life, a veteran, a lawyer, a Biden appointee who worked to shut down Guantanamo Bay We need Democrats like him to step up across the country & fight for working people to have a fair shot. Thrilled to support him! #nhpolitics
