“It is troubling that the media workers whose very job is to hold power to account, have been targeted. So we must fight. We fight for our communities, we fight for freedom of speech and a free press, we fight against oppression & injustice. No thrones. No crowns. No kings.”

Yet our own editor in chief won’t stand up for his reporter. At this moment in history, if you want to be in journalism you damn well better be on the side of journalists who are trying to dispel misinformation and inform communities under increasingly difficult circumstances.

The NY Press Club is dismayed by the actions of Mayor Eric Adams banning a City Hall reporter simply for doing their job. We are reaching the height of absurdity when the Mayor of New York City is applying a hostile tactic seen in the White House.

The mayor continues to refuse to take a question from me after multiple reporters cede their questions to me. He claimed last week he would have security block me from getting into his weekly off topic briefings. I am in the room though.

Mayor Adams might have let our senior City Hall reporter Chris Sommerfeldt in the room today — a week after banning him for asking a question — but he doubled down on and refused to call on Chris. This even after two other reporters yielded their time to Chris.

Much respect to katie honan at The City, and the Daily News' own Josie Stratman, who yielded their time — gave up their questions — so that Chris could keep trying to do his job.

In Aug 2023, after going public with their union, nearly the entire union at Grindr was laid off. Since then, many are still unemployed or have had to accept positions that pay far less than what they were making at Grindr. Donate to the fundraiser: gofundme.com/f/support-the-…

🧵 A ‘WARM SUMMER DAY;” Despite Governor Kathy Hochul’s state of emergency declaration Condé Nast management is refusing to give our members the safety to work remotely and avoid dangerous commuting. …. 1/3

Our contract, which they signed just a year ago, explicitly gives us this right. When we brought this to Condé’s attention their VP of Labor Relations said “excused absence requests will not be approved for warm summer days.” It’s over 100 degrees in NYC. 2/2

Our members called out this clear contract violation in a company-wide reply-email action on Monday. We demand Condé management respect the contract and allow their employees to choose not to commute during a deadly heat wave. 3/3
