Delhi killed a river through neglect - dams upstream, sewage downstream, no action. Pune has identical issues but our "solution"? ₹4000 crore concrete riverfront that destroys natural floodplains. From passive destruction to active destruction. indianexpress.com/article/cities… How a

Why are birds disappearing from our cities? Urban heat stress is one reason. But will tree plantation help? It's not that simple. Unscientific tree plantation can do more harm than good Tree plantation drives on grasslands or wetlands for eg can lead to loss of avifaunal

Another example of companionship between trees - these two trees of different species, a Moi (Indian Ash) and a Neem tree are growing (and thriving) so close to each other that it's almost as if they're sharing a bark #VetalTekdi

Last evening I walked along the route parallel to the Balbharati rd alignment at the highest point where the trees are marked (the hill will be excavated for the road below this, with all trees from here to the bottom, set for the axe). Some observations 1. far more of the hill

Inaction & silence are complicities. Under our watch, #Gaza has become the graveyard of children & starving people. No way out. Their choice is between 2 deaths: starvation or being shoot at. The most cruel & machiavellian scheme to kill, in total impunity. Our norms & values

Just what Pune needed! A nice, picturesque spot for alcoholics and junkies to hang out. And all at taxpayer expense. How commendable - well done PMC. We have no words 👏 #PuneRFD

Quarry clean up drive at #VetalTekdi by Vetal Tekdi Bachav Kruti Samiti and The Cybage Foundation 16+ sacks of thermocol and plastic waste collected. Thermocol takes centuries to decompose and is one of the worst things to be dumped in a wetland containing many species of birds and aquatic organisms.

Tekdi is a great example of a truly public "common" Nobody owns it, yet everybody owns every bit of it! The spontaneity that cleans up the hills derives from the same collective energy of thousands of people spilling out on Pune's streets in defence of their much loved common.

View from my terrace of my neighbor's balcony - the creepers are growing at a frenetic pace! 💚 Can anyone identify the one with white flowers? It's grown over the tallest trees.
