Should you be able to experiment on your own cancer? This expert virologist did. It was the 3rd time her cancer appeared. It didn't bode well. So she injected viruses in her tumor and it shrunk. But most journals didn't want to publish her results. Why? Because they're dumb 🧵

Around ten years ago, I started studying inverse problems in Topological Data Analysis (TDA). For decades people in computational geometry have used tools like Reeb graphs and persistent homology to summarize shape in data, but how lossy is this process? A thread... 1/n

Jesus christ. I think I need to turn to alcohol or drugs or therapy or SOMETHING. I had seen the AMOC overturning warnings, but I had not seen this graph. I though somehow mostly the North Atlantic and Europe would be affected, but no, it's global boiling. en.vedur.is/media/ads_in_h…

Hiring is crazy. This book keeps me (roooughly) sane. I super much recommend it to anyone lost in the social jungle of research and academia. *The post is sponsored only by my desperation and the need to share valuable resources with my colleagues ;)

Asking lots of "dumb" questions isn't a sign of stupidity. If anything it is more likely to be the sign of a person who is very strict about always keeping a crystal clear mental model of the topic at hand -- the questions are just a symptom of their perpetual model refinement
