It was a pleasure to spend some time volunteering for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. I’d highly recommend it if you’ve ever considered getting involved 😊 Royal British Legion

Poorer and younger households will be most impacted by the bus fare cap increasing to £3. The lowest income fifth take twice as many £2+ bus trips than the richest, and those under 30 take almost 4 times as many as the over 60's.

I met an army family with small kids during the election who had spent over a year trying to get moved from a house infested with black mould. When they finally were moved, the new house was full of damp. Our armed forces should be able to expect high-quality living standards.

Employer NI up by 1.2 to 15%. Threshold cut from £9100 pa to £5000. That is a £25bn tax rise, proportionally hitting harder those employing lower paid workers. Probably three quarters or so of the increase will flow through to lower pay.

What a bizarre article Public sector pensions disappear on death and cannot be bequests to kids, so the effective tax rate (if you insist on doing like this)… …is 100%

My entire scientific career I have been cautioning against climate doomerism. It’s dangerously unhealthy for young people and leads into apathy. Humanity won on ozone depletion. Much of the world has been successful on acid rain and air pollution. Climate is winnable.

This is a street scar. Most people hate them. They degrade our high streets and town centres. They say “you don’t matter. Your home town is worthless.” We could stop them happening. If you would like to then ….

One year in prison, one year on licence and a four year driving ban, for killing another human being while driving distracted. This is for a case that took nearly five years to come to trial. The system is broken.

Economists: people don't understand marginal tax. If your tax rate increases above £100,000, you don't suddenly lose money when you earn £100,001 UK tax system: hold my beer

A driver who flipped his car, left the scene then lied about it being stolen to Police has avoided jail or any driving ban. Why? Because “he’s now driving for Amazon” and “has expensive car repayments to make”. Now we have to share the road with him. birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-…
