Barnard and Columbia interim suspended a total of four student journalists between Columbia Daily Spectator and WKCR-FM NY who covered the Butler Library protest, despite identifying themselves as press. Columbia has since lifted its suspension. From Isha Banerjee: columbiaspectator.com/news/2025/05/0…

A Columbia Daily Spectator photographer "held up her press pass to show a Public Safety officer. In response, the officer pushed her back by her head...an arm against her neck, effectively choking her. In fact, the officer gripped her arms so tightly she bruised." Utterly unacceptable.

Given that Columbia's The Pulitzer Prizes have awarded reporters for pieces on the failings of police every single year since 2015, I should hope that the school and its leaders would push for standup behavior within their own community.

Essential and utterly damning reporting from Anna Yang in The Stanford Daily. "A student reported her rapist to the University. Two years later, the perpetrator was suspended." This case is harrowing and the process at Stanford University remains incredibly broken. stanforddaily.com/2025/05/20/stu…
